It was in the second week of March just before lock down was imposed in India. We were lucky to experience one of the oldest inhabitated towns of the... read more world.
Had a fabulous day with Karen and visited the back lanes, did boat tour and a short visit of Sarnath before departure. He has a lot of experience in art world and History. One need to experience himself to get so much of information from him. Just go for Sachan Walking Tour.

Me and my wife had visited Varanasi during Holi festival. We were aiming for famous Holi of Masaan-vali, which is celebrated at the Manikarnika-ghat. Karan has reserved his days in... read more prior and we had some of the best tours we ever had with wandering in the labyrinth of the old gullies and halting to visit some of the most beautiful temples and mansions. Many of those came out only because of corridor project, as we were informed. Varanasi is a very nice city if one wants to experience the zeal of pilgrims, very safe for strangers. The best experience was to be at the Manikarnika ghat for the especial Holi with ashes from the pyres. Karan had the stories about every nuke & corners. Sitting at the turns in those centuries old streets and listening him with the tea in a terracotta cup is the best way to explore the oldest living city of the world. He was simply the best for his knowledge, superb English, punctuality and to organize everything very well.. :))

To unlock the secrets and beauty of Varanasi, you'll definitely need a guide. We booked Karan through the recommendation of a friend and found him to be the best guide... read more on our tour of India. We had a little over 24 hours in Varanasi, and he was with us till well after sunset and before sunrise the next morning. His English is excellent. Karan shares not just the standard guidebook facts about Varanasi but also the stories of the culture and people that bring it to life. I highly recommend his tour of northern portion of Varanasi. He took us through many alleyways and buildings we would not have dared to venture on our own. Along the way, we had both the best lassi and best samosa I've ever had. Cannot recommend him enough.

Our group of three spend a whole day with Karan; we all had a memorable trip to Sarnath with him. He is a highly educated, energetic and very responsive... read more tour guide. He went in great detail to help us understand the history, art history and aspects of Buddhism in Sarnath. Later in the day, my walking tour with him through Varanasi was filled with wonderful architectural surprises, great places to snack and fun-facts about this ancient city. Highly recommend him to anyone considering a Varanasi/ Sarnath trip

If you're looking for a guide in India, don't look further. Karan has gone out of his way to help me manage my way through omicron-struck India, and my search... read more for a good university to study in India. He went with me to Varanasi and the whole omicron wave caused quite a bit of trouble for me, which led me to having to organize/call many institutions by phone due to pcr-tests, quarantine and all those kinds of things, for which he's been a great relief and help, moreso than I can even write down here. Since both his Hindi and English are very good (I'm dutch and my hindi is very basic), and he's familiar with both western and Indian culture, he could help me breach the language barrier (which was bigger than I had anticipated) and get things done. This also helped to get in touch and talk to students at the Banaras Hindu University to find out more about the course there, which was the whole intention of my trip. Also he told and showed me a lot about indian culture which helped me see India in a way I couldn't have on my own. Another thing is that since he's a local here, he will prevent you from getting overcharged.
He is hospitable, organized (more than me), friendly, funny, intelligent/knowledgeable, earnest and above all, he loves to guide. A nice moment was when Karan asked a tandoori roti baker if I could hop on to the platform he was standing on, so I could peek over his shoulder to see how he made them in the oven (interesting process actually)... since he (Karan) knew I'm interested in food and cooking. I haven't done a regular tour with him, but I have no doubt it is equally as good.
Karan, I wish you all the best and really hope you can go back to guiding full-time despite of all the corona stuff.
Thanks for all your help.
